BIOGRAPHY OF ARTIST, TED COWART
Ted Cowart has been drawing and painting since childhood. His talent earned him a ten-year scholarship to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the sixth largest art museum in the country.
I have spent a lifetime dancing with the call to be a painter. In my youth, I was surrounded by the classics, especially the great artists of the early 20th century. These styles and movements were a great influence on me.
Ted’s college education began at the University of Houston, where he was a fine art major and award winning set designer for university operas and productions. After one year there, he applied and was accepted to the prestigious Los Angeles Art Center College of Design – becoming one of their youngest students. At Art Center, he studied drawing, painting and graphic design for four years, followed by two years of study in Europe, where his subject matter was primarily portraits.
Upon returning to the states, Ted moved to New York City where he established his own design business specializing in graphic designs and illustrations for national and international clients.
After many successful years in New York, Ted brought his design business to Texas and soon began to paint again. Initially, his paintings were bought by many of his own clients – prominent doctors and business owners. Then others became aware of, and interested in, his paintings, and a second career had begun.
Ted then moved to California, where he spent three years painting and showing his work in Palm Springs and in Palm Desert galleries. Returning to Houston, he expanded his exhibitions and galleries to include, Houston, Cody, Wyoming, Dallas and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
His work is now in collections throughout the United States and in Mexico. Click the
